➡️ द्वितीय बौद्ध परिषद - यह 383 ईसा पूर्व में राजा कलसोका के संरक्षण में वैशाली में आयोजित की गई थी। यह अनुशासन की संहिता, विनय पिटक पर विवाद को निपटाने के लिए आयोजित किया गया था। उपसमूह थे स्टैविरावदा, महासंघिका और सर्वस्वातिदा।
➡️ तीसरा बौद्ध परिषद - यह राजा अशोक के संरक्षण में 250 ईसा पूर्व में पाटलिपुत्र में आयोजित किया गया था। इसकी अध्यक्षता एल्डर मोग्गलिपुत्त तिस्सा ने की। अभिधम्म पिटक की स्थापना हुई
➡️ चौथा बौद्ध परिषद - यह राजा कनिष्क के संरक्षण में 72 ईस्वी में कश्मीर के कुंडलवन में आयोजित किया गया था। इसकी अध्यक्षता वसुमित्र ने की थी और अश्वघोष उनके उपसभापति थे। इसने बौद्ध धर्म को महायान और हीनयान संप्रदायों में विभाजित किया।

Buddhist Councils - The first Buddhist council was convened in the year
400 B.C. near Rajgriha following the Buddha's Parinirvana (death) under
the chairmanship of Mahakassapa. King Ajatashatru sponsored the
council. Tripitaka was established. Teachings of Gautam Buddha was
divided into two Pitakas - Vinaya Pitaka and Sutta Pitaka.

Buddhist Councils - It was held at Vaishali in 383 BC under the
patronage of King Kalasoka. It was held to settle dispute on Vinaya
Pitaka, the code of discipline. The subgroups were Sthaviravada,
Mahasanghikas and Sarvastivada.
➡️Third
Buddhist Councils - It was held at Patliputra in 250 BC under the
patronage of King Ashoka. It was presided over by the Elder Moggaliputta
Tissa. Abhidhamma Pitaka was established
➡️Fourth
Buddhist Councils - It was held at Kundalvan, Kashmir in 72 AD under
the patronage of King Kanishka. It was presided over by Vasumitra and
Ashwaghosha was his deputy. It divided Buddhism into Mahayana and
Hinayana sects.

🌸 1st Buddhist Council
▪️Place: Rajgriha, Bihar Ruler: Ajatshatru
▪️Accomplishment: Buddha’s teachings were compiled into Sutta Pitaka (Ananda) and Vinaya Pitaka (Upali)
🌸 2nd Buddhist Council
▪️Place: Vaishali Ruler: Kalashoka (Shishunaga dynasty)
▪️Accomplishment: Buddhist sangha was divided into schools i.e. Theravadi or Sthavira and Mahasanghik or Sarvastivadin.
▪️Theravadi is the oldest Buddhist school with its main centre in Kashmir.
▪️Mahasanghik’s main center was in Magadha.
🌸 3rd Buddhist Council
▪️Place: Pataliputra Ruler: Ashoka
▪️Accomplishment: Compilation of the third pitaka i.e. Abhidhamma Pitaka which explains the tenets of Dhamma.
🌸 4th Buddhist Council
▪️Place: Kashmir Ruler: Kanishka
▪️Accomplishment: Compilation of Vibhashashastra by Vasumitra, a commentary in Sanskrit on the difficult aspects of Buddhist texts.
▪️Buddhists again broke into 2 schools i.e. Theravadi or Sthavira became Hinayana and Sarvastivadin or Mahasanghik became Mahayana schools.
