The Sea of Azov is a seain Eastern Europe.
To the south it is linked by the narrow (about 4 km or 2.5 mi) Strait of Kerchto the Black Sea, and it is sometimes regarded as a northern extension of the Black Sea.
The sea is bounded in the north and in the west by Ukraine, in the east by Russia.
The Sea of Azov is the shallowest sea in the world, with the depth varying between 0.9 and 14 metres.
There is a constant outflow of water from the Sea of Azov to the Black Sea.
The shallow Sea of Azov lies east of Crimea, and south of the Ukrainian regions partially seized by pro-Russian separatists.
The two Ukrainian ports on its northern shore - Berdyansk and Mariupol - are key to exporting grain and produce such as steel, also for importing coal.
Under a 2003 treaty between Moscow and Kiev, the Kerch Strait and the Sea of Azov are shared territorial waters. #Prelims
