● It was launched by the Ministry of Housing & Urban Affairs with the aim to provide universal coverage of water supply to all households in all 4,378 statutory towns, through functional taps.
● Funding: For Union Territories, there will be 100% central funding and for North Eastern and Hill States, central funding for projects will be 90%. For other cities, funding will be based on population.
Features of the Mission
● The mission will promote a circular economy of water through the development of the city water balance plan in each city.
● Information, Education, and Communication(IEC) campaign will be conducted to spread awareness among the masses about the conservation of water.
● Pey Jal Survekshan will be conducted in cities to know the distribution of water.
● Latest Technologies will be used in the field of water.
● The cities having a million-plus population will take up Public Private Projects(PPP) projects.
