Somapura Mahavihara

✅ It was established by Dharmapala of Pala dynasty during the late 8th century in Bengal and flourished for 400 years till the 12th century. 

✅ The University spread over 27 acres of land of which the main complex was 21 acres was one of the largest of its kind.

✅ It was designated as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1985.

✅ Somapura mahavihara at Paharpur ,a creation of Dharmapala is one of the largest Buddhist vihara in Indian sub continent ,its architectural plan had influenced the architecture of countries like Myanmar and Indonesia.
