๐ธTo become self-reliant in power generation and achieving energy transition towards clean energy, Government has taken following measures:
๐ธThe renewable energy capacity to go up to 450
GW.
๐ธ Phase-wise retirement of old polluting coal-based power plants.
๐ธSetting up of Ultra Mega Renewable Energy Parks to provide land and transmission to RE developers on a plug and play basis.
๐ธ Schemes such as Pradhan Mantri Kisan Urja Surakshaevam Utthaan Mahabhiyan (PM-KUSUM), Solar Rooftop Phase II, 12000 MW
CPSU Scheme Phase II, etc.
๐ธLaying of new transmission lines and creating new sub-station capacity under the Green Energy Corridor Scheme for evacuation of renewable power.
๐ธNotifying Bidding Guidelines for tariff based competitive bidding process for procurement of Power from Grid Connected Solar PV and
Wind Projects.
๐ธDeclaring Large Hydro Power (LHPs) (>25 MW projects) as Renewable Energy source.
๐ธ Hydro Purchase Obligation (HPO) as a separate
entity within Non-solar Renewable Purchase
Obligation (RPO).
๐ธ Tariff rationalization measures for bringing
down hydro power tariff.
๐ธ Budgetary Support for Flood Moderation /Storage Hydro Electric Projects (HEPs).
✅Budgetary Support to Cost of Enabling Infrastructure, i.e., roads/bridges for hydro
projects.
✅Targeting to install 175 GW of Renewable Energy capacity (excluding large hydro) by the
end of 2021-22
▪️Schemes in news – PM-Kisan Urja Suraksha evam Utthaan Mahabhiyan (KUSUM):
✅ Ministry: Ministry of New and Renewable Energy
✅Purpose: To provide energy sufficiency and sustainable irrigation access to farmers.
▪️Expected Outcomes:
✅ Opportunity to the farmers to sell the additional power generated through the solar
plants
✅Decentralising solar power production
✅Subsidy burden on DISCOMS in the agricultural sector will be reduced
✅ Helps in de-dieseling (replacing the diesel pumps) the agricultural sector
✅Water conservation, water security and energy efficiency are the other benefits to the
farmers.
