About Madhubani Paintings ( From Mithila region in Bihar)

It is characterized by line drawings filled in by bright colors and contrasts or patterns.

Painting has been traditionally done by the women of the region, though today men are also involved .

Although initially, mud walls were the canvases for these paintings, now, cloth is used, apart from handmade paper. 

The colors are derived mostly from plants.

The colors are applied flat with no shading and no empty space is left.

Figures from nature & mythology are adapted to suit their style. Social events like court scenes , wedding scenes etc. are also painted
