Pichavaram mangrove Forest

● Pichavaram mangrove Forest is located in Chidambaram, Tamil Nadu. 

● It is the world’s second largest mangrove forest after Sunderbans. 

● It is located between two prominent estuaries, the Vellar estuary in the north and Coleroon estuary in the south. 

● The mangrove forest is separated from the Bay of Bengal by a sandbar.  

● The mangrove forests consist of biotope species like Avicennia and Rhizophora.It also supports the existence of rare varieties of economically important shell and fishes.
