Selvas


 
• The equatorial rain-forests in the Amazon basin (South America) are known as selvas.
  
• The trees have smooth-bark and are without branches in their lower two-third part.
 
• On the trees, there are many climbers and epiphytes (air-plants).
 
• Large scale deforestation of Selvas in Brazil is creating numerous ecological problems.
