• Lying to the west of the Peninsula of Arabia, the Red Sea extends from north to north, separating Asia from Africa.
• In the south, the Strait of Bab-al-Madab connects it with the Arabian Sea, while in the north the Suez Canal connects it with the Mediterranean Sea.
• The salinity of its water in the northern part is 39m per thousand while the surface temperature often reads 30⁰C.
• Its main sea ports are Suez, Aqabah, Sharmus-Shekh, Jeddah, Hodeida, Mocha (Yemen), Massawa (Eritrea), and Port Sudan.
• From the shipping point of view, it is one of the busiest seas in the world.
