James Webb Space Telescope (JWST)

1. It is being developed by NASA, the European Space Agency and the Canadian Space Agency.

2. NASA is set to launch the large infrared James Webb Space Telescope (JWST) touted as the “premier observatory” of the coming decade later this year.

3. It will study various phases in the history of the universe, from the formation of solar systems to the evolution of our own Solar System.

4. It will be a large infrared telescope with an approximately 6.5 meter primary mirror.

5. The telescope will be launched on an Ariane 5 rocket from French Guiana in 2021.

● The telescope will complement and is considered the successor of the Hubble Space Telescope.

● Objectives: To shed light on our cosmic origins, to observe the Universe's first galaxies, to reveal the birth of stars and planets and to look for exoplanets with the potential for life.
