● ‘Garima Greh: A Shelter Home for Transgender Persons’ was launched by the Ministry of Social Justice & Empowerment.
● Aim: To provide shelter to transgender persons, who have been forced to leave their homes or abandoned by the family.
● These shelter homes will be set up with basic amenities like shelter, food, medical care and recreational facilities.
● Besides, it will provide support for the capacity-building/skill development of persons in the Community, which will enable them to lead a life of dignity and respect. They will be run by transgender community-led organisations.
● The first such home was established in Vadodara, Gujarat
