कुटिला लक्ष्मीर्यत्र प्रभवति न सरस्वती वसति |

प्रायः श्वश्रूस्नुषयोर्न दृश्यते सौहार्दं  लोके || 

जिस स्थान में कुटिल स्वभाव वाली देवी लक्ष्मी प्रभावशाली स्थिति में होती है , वहां देवी सरस्वती निवास नहीं करती है , क्यों कि समाज में यह देखा गया है कि प्रायः एक  सास और उसकी बहुओं के बीच में सौहार्द (आदर और प्रेम की भावना) नहीं होती है | 

In a place where Goddess Lakshmi is in a dominating position, the Goddess Sarasvati (representing knowledge and learning) never  resides, because it is generally seen in ordinary life that the relationship between a mother-in-law and her daughter-in-law is never affectionate and friendly.  

(This Subhashita also  deals with the relationship between Goddess Lakshmi and Sarasvati,  Here their relationship is shown as between a mother-in-law and a daughter-in-law , to emphasise the notion in Sanskrit literature about enmity between Lakshmi and Sarasvati.)
